The Clark Brothers Win and Perform Billy The Kid on the Final Episode of The Next Great American Band

After winning, The Clark Brothers performed their song, Billy the Kid, and were joined on stage at the end of the song by members of the other bands who were eliminated. Congrats again guys. You are already the Next Great American Band!

The Clark Brothers' Final Performance on The Next Great American Band

The Clark Brothers are a fantastic band. For their final performance before the final results, they performed one of their original songs called You Are Still The Same. It was a great performance. Fantastic job guys!

I really liked Sixwire, but i have to agree with America, The Clark Brothers were just too good. Sixwire did a kickass job though on the Rolling Stones' The Last Time for their final song. Great job guys!

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra Final Performance on the Next Great American Band

Denver and the band performed Vehicle by The Ides of March as their swan song on the final episode of the Next Great American Band. They came in third place in the competition, which is much higher than I ever believed they'd finish. Good job guys!

The Clark Brothers Win The Next Great American Band

I haven't been able to find the videos online yet of all the performances from the finale, but it was a good show. Sixwire came in second. Light of Doom, Northmont (Band that didn't make it to the final 12), Goo Goo Dolls, Sheila E. and Denver and the Mile High Orchestra performed on the show. I hope to have all the videos up tomorrow.

Congrats to the Clark boys! You deserved it more than anyone...

The Clark Brothers Perform Eric Clapton and Lonestar Songs on Episode 9 of the Next Great American Band

While I really like Sixwire, I have to agree with Johnny on this one. These guys deserve to win this more than any other band. They really are fantastic. They sang Eric Clapton's Change The World and Lonestar's Amazed, and they did their original song, This Little Light of Mine/Faith, Faith, Faith. Enjoy and good luck in the finale guys!

Sixwire Perform Steely Dan and England Dan & John Ford Coley Songs on Episode 9 of the Next Great American Band

I really like Sixwire because I'm a huge country music fan. I thought they did a great job on all three songs tonight. They mixed it up well with a relaxing song (Steely Dan's Reeling in the Years), a love song (England Dan & John Ford Coley's I'd Really Love To See You Tonight) and an upbeat song (Good to Be Back - an original of theirs). Great job guys!

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra Perform Songs By Earth, Wind & Fire and Ide's of March on Episode 9 of the Next Great American Band

Denver and the Mile High guys are through to the finale next week. I really am amazed they've made it this far, but they are talented, and it takes all types of music to make the world go around. I don't think they're going to win next week, but I've been wrong before. We shall see. Here they are performing Earth, Wind & Fire's September, Ide's of March's Vehicle and their original called The Way You Move Me. Enjoy!

Erik From Light Of Doom Sings Iron Maiden's The Trooper With Another Kid Band - Axxys

I have to be honest, I didn't realize there were other kiddie heavy metal bands out there, but apparently, there are. This band is called Axxys and Erik from Light of Doom is helping the lead singer sing Iron Maiden's The Trooper during this concert. The troubling part about this video is this footage is shot from their concert at Hollywood's Whiskey a Go-Go. I didn't realize an underage kids band could play in a bar, but then again, I've never seen a kid band play live before. Oh well, for you Light of Doom fans, here you go. Enjoy!

Carrie Underwood's So Small Featuring the Clark Brothers

I just found this online. I was looking for an acoustic version of Carrie Underwood's #1 single, So Small for another blog of mine, Today's Best Country Music Videos. When I started watching the video, I noticed some familiar faces in the background. It's none other than the Clark Brothers providing the music for Carrie. It's a great version of the song. The Clark Brothers Perform Queen's These Are The Days Of Our Lives on Episode 8 of the Next Great American Band

I love the Clark Brothers. I'm torn between them and Sixwire when it comes to picking the winner. I thought they did a great job on both songs as did Sheila E. and Johnny. Dicko didn't like the lyrics to their original song, Homestead, but thought they performed it well. What'd you think?

P.S. Love the additional band members... Now, you're a real band.

Light of Doom Perform Queen's We Will Rock You on Episode 8 of the Next Great American Band

As you'll see from the judges comments below, Light of Doom sucked this week. That's the only way I can describe their performance. I think they have a bright future, but they're Queen routine looked like their mom helped put it together. It was really corny, and their original song was pretty lame.

The judges opinions:
  • Johnny stepped out of the box and bashed them this week. He was right to do so though. The music industry is very tough, and they needed a little reality check last night.
  • Sheila E. - Similar to John, she thought their performance was sub-par.
  • Dicko - Same for Dicko - he didn't like this performance at all
What'd you think?

Sixwire Perform Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls on Episode 8 on the Next Great American Band

Sixwire nailed it this week. Their version of Queen's Fat-Bottomed Girls was excellent, and their original song, Go On should already be on the Billboard Hot Country charts if you ask me. It's an excellent song and the judges loved it.

The judges opinions:
  • Johnny - Said their original was as good as anything on the radio today.
  • Sheila E. - Said, "You guys have to win because I want that song!" referring to their original
  • Dicko - Loved their Queen song saying they were a bit boring when they first arrived on the show, but they must have been putting something in their corn flakes, because they're awesome now.
What'd you think?

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra Perform Queen's Sleeping on the Sidewalk on Episode 8 of the Next Great American Band

As we near the finish line, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra are still going strong. If I had to pick, I'd have to pick them to be eliminated next week. They did a pretty good job on Queen's Sleeping on the Sidewalk and their original song Big White House.

The judges opinions:
  • Johnny - Liked it and didn't offer much criticism (It seems that ever since Sheila E. pressured him into giving Light of Doom the thumbs up on the first episode, Johnny's been hesitant to offer any type of harsh criticism)
  • Sheila E. - Liked the performance, but thought Denver needs to do a better job choreographing his movements.
  • Dicko - Like Sheila, he liked it, but thought that Denver was now looking to sloppy
See what you think...

Dot Dot Dot Eliminated on Episode 8 of the Next Great American Band

The three Dots run is over, and I couldn't agree more. I just didn't think they were near as good as some of the other bands that were eliminated earlier. In particular, Tres Bien, Franklin Bridge and definitely The Muggs were much better than them.

The Clark Brothers Peforming Rod Stewart's You're in My Heart on Episode 7 of the Next Great American Band

The Clark Brothers were fantastic last night. They sang Rod Stewart's You're In My Heart, and they did a great job. They brought Sheila E. to tears and even Dicko loved it. Whether these guys win or not, they're getting a record deal. No doubt about it. Enjoy!

Sixwire are still the most complete "band" of all the bands. They did a great job on Rod Stewart's Hot Legs. The judges loved them, but they all agreed that the bass solo has got to go. I thought it was okay. The bass players never get featured in bands, so I thought it was kind of cool. Anyway, great job guys!

The three dots made it through last night singing Rod Stewart's Young Turks. Johnny of course liked it (he likes almost anything), Sheila E. was booed for her critique and Dicko hit it on the head with this band. They're still a lot of fluff and not enough substance in my opinion. Enjoy!

Tres Bien were skating on thin ice after last week's performance where they were beaten up pretty bad by the judges, and it looks like America followed suit as they were eliminated last night on episode seven. Here are the five remaining bands:

  • The Clark Brothers
  • Denver and the Mile High Orchestra
  • Dot Dot Dot
  • Light of Doom
  • Sixwire

The Hatch and the Likes Of You Eliminated After Episode Two

The Likes of You and The Hatch were eliminated last night on the Episode three of the Next Great American Band. I wasn't surprised about The Hatch, but I was a little surprised that The Likes of You were eliminated this quickly. If you missed them last week, The Hatch performed Bob Dylan's It's All Over Baby Blue and the Likes of You sang Dylan's Blowin' In The Wind.

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

The Likes Of You Perform Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" on Episode Two of the Next Great American Band

The Likes Of You's lead singer, Geoff Byrd, is good. Dicko was concerned that he just threw a band together to get into the competition, which is exactly what Byrd did. However, Byrd said that they just clicked and things are great. We'll see, but for now, they're definitely a front-runner with Byrd's singing and writing talents. They did a good job on Dylan's Blowin' In The Wind, and their original was called Love and Gravity. Enjoy!

The Hatch Perform Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" on Episode Two of the Next Great American Band

The Hatch are my least favorite of the final twelve bands. I don't think they're as talented group-wise as the rest of the bands. Sure, as Dicko said on episode one, the lead singer is good looking, but looks alone won't win this competition. They did an okay job on Dylan's It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, but I didn't like their original song called Stretch Out The Time. Enjoy!

Rocket Perform Bob Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door" on Episode Two of the Next Great American Band

Like The Hatch, I'm not a big fan of Rocket. I don't think the lead singer has what it takes to lead the band. They're certainly not as talented as many of the other bands in the competition. They might last a while because of female voters, but I think eventually, they'll be out of their league and will be sent packing. Here they are performing Bob Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door and their original song, Mean To You. Enjoy!

Well, Cliff and his gang of Bluegrass Hillbillys are actually pretty talented, but I'm not sure they're going to make it too far. Light Of Doom Perform All Along The Watchtower on Episode Two of the Next Great American Band

Light of Doom did a pretty good job on Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower, and their original song called Eye of the Storm was okay. On Episode One, I thought these kids were pretty good. But, I remember one thing that Dicko said to them that I now feel might happen to them. He basically said that once the awww... factore wore off, they're wouldn't be much substance left. After seeing them perform on Episode Two, I'm starting to agree with him.

My main concern is this: The lead singer's voice is going to change in a couple of years, and like Hanson before them, once it does, chances are, they'll be done. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but I think as a band, they won't be together very long. As individuals, they might go farther in the future. Only time will tell...

Lastly, I agree with Dicko. These kids needs to keep their shirts on. It's more distracting than anything else. Enjoy!

Dot Dot Dot are good. The lead singer is a great entertainer, and they have the look and feel of today's pop/rock bands. They did a really good job on Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone. Their original song, Another Stupid Love Song, was very catchy, and I can easily see it charting on the pop charts. They're definitely one of the favorites to win the competition. Enjoy!

Sixwire Perform Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man on Episode Two of the Next Great American Band

Sixwire are definitely the most polished of all the bands in the competition. They've been around for seven years, and they've already had and lost a major record label deal, so it's basically, now or never for them. To me, all these guys need is a record label that will push their music. Country music is huge right now, so they're hitting it at the right time. We'll see...

They did a great job on the cover song, and their original, Good To Be Back, is a great song. Enjoy!

Northmont Promotional Video - Next Great American Band Episode One

Northmont didn't make it through to the final 12, but the judges gave them a second chance. I actually thought they sounded really good. The lead singer looks like a cross between Vin Diesel and Henry Rollins and the band sounds like Matchbox 20.

All that being said, they have the right formula to produce top 40 music, which is what the competition is ultimately about: Finding a pop band that can sell cd's to the masses, i.e. top 40 music. Oh well, maybe the publicity from the show will help these guys and encourage them not to give up. Here's a promo video of them I found on Youtube. Enjoy!

In fact, with them, there would be 13. I don't know if this was a mistake by the judges for choosing too many bands or what, but I'd like to find out what happened. Because as you can clearly see in the last post, the judges pushed them through. Anyone have any information about this???

Zombie Bazooka Patrol's Performance on Episode One

The Zombie Bazooka Patrol didn't sound anything like they looked, but they actually sounded pretty good for a bluegrass/pop band. I can see these guys losing the makeup in the future and actually becoming a pretty successful band. Enjoy!

The Likes of You - When I Fall From Grace

The Likes of You are a very talented band. They made it through to the Final 12 participants. Here is their video for their single, When I Fall From Grace. The lead singer reminds me of a cross between Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) and Billy Zane (Actor in Dead Calm, Titantic, etc.). This band could be a sleeper to win the whole thing. Enjoy!

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra Viral Video

I haven't been able to find video online yet of Denver and the Mile High Orchestra's performance last night on episode one, but here's a great video of them performing live. They do a great job entertaining the crowd. I think they're better off performing as a Vegas act or something like that, but it was nice to see them make it through. Enjoy!

Cliff Wagner and the Old #7 Performance on Episode One

I was actually surprised they voted this band through, but they are talented. And, let's face it, any bluegrass band that sings Madonna's Like a Virgin deserves to make it through. Enjoy!

Dot Dot Dot Performance on Episode One

These guys and girls were really good. They've got a good shot at winning because they have a great pop sound. They're definitely top 40 radio material, which is inevitably the type of band that will probably win the competition. Enjoy!

The Muggs Performance on Episode One

I personally really liked these guys. Yes, it's very impressive that the bass player who had a stroke plays the bass with the keyboard, but the really impressive member of this band is the lead guitarist/lead singer. He's awesome on the guitar and reminds me a little of Eric Clapton. All three judges were blown away by them. These guys are my pick to win it all! Enjoy!

Franklin Bridge Performance on Episode One

Franklin Bridge remind me of a cross between Hootie and the Blowfish and 80's rockers, Living Colour with a little R&B gospel thrown into the mix. They did a really good job and really impressed the judges.

Sixwire Performance on Episode One

Here's Sixwire's performance on episode one. The judges really like them. They're going to go a long way.

The Clark Brothers Performance on Episode One

These guys were good. Even without a bass player or drummer, they were great. They're a mixture of country, rock, blues and bluegrass, and they are talented. I think they'll go a long way in the contest.

Sixwire Audition Video for Next Great American Band

Sixwire is definitely the most established band of the final 12 participants. They used to have a record deal with Warner Brothers, and even had a top 30 hit on the Billboard Hot Country charts for their song Look At Me Now from 2002. They've got a great shot at winning if they don't screw it up.

The Hatch Performance on Episode One

The Hatch sounded great, and Sheila E. loved the lead singer's eyes. You can't go wrong when you have one of the judges mesmerized by your eyes. Enjoy!

Light Of Doom - Performance on Next Great American Band Episode One

Here's the glam rock, kiddy band Light of Doom performing in front of the judges last night on episode one of the show. I loved their performance and their look. The lead guitarist is great and the lead singer has great presence. The only problem with a band like this is the lead singer's voice is going to change in a couple of years, and who knows what they'll sound like then, aka Hansen. For now, enjoy the performance and we'll see how they do in the future.

Tres Bien made it through to the 12 finalists. Here is their audition video. Kind of wacky... But, hey, whatever it takes, right? Enjoy!

Rocket - Cougar Rush

The all-girl punk rock band Rocket were one of the bands to make it to the final 12. The girl's of Rocket are: Lauren, Lauren C., Kelly, Kristin and Roxie. Here's a video of them performing their song Cougar Rush. If you'd like to buy their latest CD, Girls With Candy Hearts, you can buy it online at Amazon.com. Enjoy!

The 12 Bands Have Been Chosen

I just finished watching the first episode of the Next Great American Band on FOX. It's produced by the same producers as American Idol. The three judges for this show are Sheila E. (former drummer for Prince), Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls lead singer) and Ian "Dicko" Dickson (a judge from Australian Idol). After watching the first show, it's apparent that Ian is the Simon Cowell of the group, Sheila E. is a lot like Paula Abdul and Johnny is like Randy Jackson.

I enjoyed watching the show more than American Idol mainly because a lot of the bands performed rock songs rather than R&B and Pop songs like you hear on American Idol. There were some really good bands and some really, really horrible ones. My favorites from this first show were Sixwire (country band), The Muggs (Blues Rock) and an all kid 80's glam rock band called Light of Doom. I did some looking around the internet, and most of these bands have been touring for quite some time and a lot of them have had record deals in the past, so it's not exactly a huge prize just to win a record deal, but it's more like a "Battle of the Bands" concept. Either way, it should be an entertaining show nonetheless. We'll see. The next few posts feature performances from some of the bands who performed on the first episode as well as their audition videos.

Here are the 12 bands that made it through to the next round:

  • Tres Bien
  • Light of Doom
  • The Hatch
  • The Clark Brothers
  • Dot Dot Dot
  • The Muggs
  • Denver and the Mile High Orchestra
  • Sixwire
  • Cliff Wagner and the Ol’ #7
  • Franklin Bridge
  • Rocket
  • The Likes of You
