The 12 Bands Have Been Chosen

I just finished watching the first episode of the Next Great American Band on FOX. It's produced by the same producers as American Idol. The three judges for this show are Sheila E. (former drummer for Prince), Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls lead singer) and Ian "Dicko" Dickson (a judge from Australian Idol). After watching the first show, it's apparent that Ian is the Simon Cowell of the group, Sheila E. is a lot like Paula Abdul and Johnny is like Randy Jackson.

I enjoyed watching the show more than American Idol mainly because a lot of the bands performed rock songs rather than R&B and Pop songs like you hear on American Idol. There were some really good bands and some really, really horrible ones. My favorites from this first show were Sixwire (country band), The Muggs (Blues Rock) and an all kid 80's glam rock band called Light of Doom. I did some looking around the internet, and most of these bands have been touring for quite some time and a lot of them have had record deals in the past, so it's not exactly a huge prize just to win a record deal, but it's more like a "Battle of the Bands" concept. Either way, it should be an entertaining show nonetheless. We'll see. The next few posts feature performances from some of the bands who performed on the first episode as well as their audition videos.

Here are the 12 bands that made it through to the next round:

  • Tres Bien
  • Light of Doom
  • The Hatch
  • The Clark Brothers
  • Dot Dot Dot
  • The Muggs
  • Denver and the Mile High Orchestra
  • Sixwire
  • Cliff Wagner and the Ol’ #7
  • Franklin Bridge
  • Rocket
  • The Likes of You
